Superbowl Sandwich Loaf (Game Day Favorites- Year One: Volume 8; November, 2010)


Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 25 min
Ready in: 35 min
Serves: 4- 6

Ingredients:
1 lb. mild Italian sausage- casings removed
1/2 c. onion- chopped
1/2 c. green bell pepper- chopped
1/4 lb. mushrooms- sliced
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese- cubed
1/4 c. parmesan cheese
1/4 c. water
1/4 tsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. salt
1 loaf sourdough French bread
1 (6oz.) pkg. mozzarella cheese slices- cut in halves

Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400
- Brown sausage and drain off any fat
- Add onion, green bell pepper, and mushrooms and cook until tender
- Stir in cream cheese, parmesan cheese, water, oregano, and salt and cook until cream cheese is melted
- Cut a lengthwise slice from the top of the bread and scoop out center, leaving a 1" shell
- Place 1/2 the mozzarella cheese in the shell
- Fill shell with meat mixture and top with remaining cheese
- Cover with top bread slice and place on baking sheet
- Bake until crust is crispy, about 10 min
- Slice diagonally to serve
