Sautéed Cabbage with a Kick (A Time to Shred- Year Six: Volume 10; January, 2016)


Prep time: 5 min
Cook time: 7 min
Ready in: 12 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: 
2 T. olive oil
1 medium yellow onion- chopped
2 cloves garlic- minced
1 medium head green cabbage- sliced into 3/4" slices
2 T. butter- cut into 2 pieces
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
Red pepper flakes, to taste

Directions:
- Heat a 12" skillet with olive oil over medium heat
- Add onion and cook until softened, about 3- 4 min
- Add garlic and stir, cooking 30 seconds
- Turn heat up to medium-high heat and add about 1/3 cabbage
- Stir to mix onions and garlic with cabbage
- Cook until cabbage starts to brown, 2- 6 min
- Turn cabbage over and let other side brown slightly, about 2- 4 min
- Season lightly with a dash of salt
- Add another 1/3 cabbage and 1 T. butter and cook 2- 3 min
- Flip cabbage again and cook about 2 min
- Add remaining cabbage and butter, and cook until cabbage is browned, 2- 5 min
- Add more salt, and pepper, to taste
- Remove from heat, season with red pepper flakes, and serve
